Letter from NJAFR to New Jersey State Police Superintendent
Read NJAFR President Bob Viden's letter to New Jersey State Police Superintendent Col. Joseph Fuentes.
New Threat to New Jersey Firearms Retailers
The New Jersey state police are proposing onerous regulations that will
further burden New Jersey firearms dealers at a significant cost without
any public safety benefit. The proposed regulations would change how
firearms retailers store firearms and require all firearms sold by retailers
to be secured by a steel cable.
The proposed regulations would also force law-abiding gun owners placing
handguns on consignment to produce a permit in order to receive back
their own lawfully owned firearms. Lastly, the regulations would ban
all magazines with blocks restricting the number of cartridges. This
is despite opinions authored by past new jersey state attorneys general,
both republican and democrat, stating that blocks restricting the number
of cartridges a magazine can hold were indeed lawful.
The New Jersey Association of Firearms Retailers (NJAFR) is one of
six state associations organized under the umbrella of the National Association
of Firearms Retailers (NAFR), a division of the National Shooting Sports
Foundation (NSSF). NJAFR and NSSF are in Trenton providing dealers with
a unified voice on regulatory and legislative affairs that impact your
business. We are on the ground now defending against this latest attack.
Here’s what you can do to help:

Oppose New Jersey Ammunition Bill A2602
New Jersey residents are urged to contact their state senators immediately to OPPOSE A2602, a bill that seeks to regulate the distribution and possession of ammunition in the state. A2602 would criminalize the distribution and possession of ammunition by anyone who is not a licensed dealer or who does not possess a valid firearms purchaser identification card (NJFID), a certified copy of a permit to purchase a handgun, a valid permit to carry a handgun, or a valid New Jersey hunting license. The bill also would ban the transfer of ammunition to anyone under 18 years old.
A person who sells, transfers, purchases or possesses ammunition in
violation of this bill would be guilty of a crime of the fourth
degree, which is punishable by a fine of up to $10,000, imprisonment
for a term of up to 18 months, or both. This bill has already passed
the New Jersey State Assembly and is awaiting a hearing in the
Senate.
Contact
your state senators TODAY and urge them to oppose this ill-conceived
legislation.
